Summer brings warm weather, longer days, and a lot of fun in the sun. It also brings
the threat of summer storms that can bring high winds, flash floods, and fires all
with very little warning. Summer storm season is guaranteed to damage structures
in every state, most damage will be minimal, but some of the storms will be spectacular
and cause catastrophic damage. The National Weather Service points out that there
are 10,000 severe storms across the U.S. every summer. Its good to always be prepared

Summer Storm Damage Prevention Tips

Preparations Against Severe Thunderstorms

* The majority of structural damage in a severe thunderstorm occurs during a hailstorm.
Hail damage to property is estimated to exceed $1 billion annually. Having good
quality and type for siding and roofing materials will help protect them against
the effects golf ball sized hail can have.
*  The number two cause of structural damage in a severe thunderstorm is from the
straight-line wind (or wind moving in one direction and not rotating) and tornadoes.
To prevent against damages from wind, having roofing materials and siding properly
fastened is a good start. Another tip is to take care of tree maintenance, such
as removing dead limbs and weakened trees, to reduce the likelihood of them causing
damage.
* Flash flooding sometimes follows rain during a severe thunderstorm. The best way
to protect against high out-of-pocket costs when anticipating flooding is to make
sure you have a Flood Insurance Policy-which is separate from regular insurance
policies.
Preparations to Protect the Exterior of your Home

* Trim back any tree branches or limbs that are hanging near or on your home. Remove
any dead trees and limbs from your property.
* Have your gutters cleaned and checked to ensure they are in proper working order.
* Secure any items that could become flying projectiles during a windstorm or tornado
including grills, patio furniture, or anything not attached to the ground or secure
structure.
* After a severe hail or wind storm has passed, contact us for a property and roof
inspection and estimate on any damages.

Summer Events

–Fred Wilt Memorial Golf Outing

Where: Sycamore Hills Golf Club and Banquet Center

When: Friday, June 13th, 2014 from 9am-finish

All proceeds from the event will go to a child in need.

–Anchor Bay Taste Fest

Where: Downtown New Baltimore in the Bay-Rama Fish Fly Festival Tent

When: Tuesday, June 17th, 2014 from 5pm-8pm.

Tickets: $25 pre-paid/$30 at the door

DBC Company will be sponsoring a table and will be passing out water bottles at
the event. Tickets include entertainment, unlimited tasting and refreshments.

–25th Annual Senior Fun Festival

Where: Gibraltar Trade Center North in Mount Clemens

When: Friday, June 20th, 2014 from 10am-3pm

DBC Company will have a booth to showcase the many services we have to improve the
quality of life for those who can’t get around as well anymore.
